Charles de BUYER – The creator

My first knife, I received it from my father as a gift for my first judo competition. I was 6 years old and I still remember it. The knife has this special power to be an object with strong sentimental value, a legacy that can be left.

My first contact with steel was shortly after. With my father, we had tinkered with a forge in a wheelbarrow with a vacuum cleaner modified as a blower. Thanks to this, we made our 1st forged “blades”!

The passion then began to be born, so we switched to a more efficient forge a few years later. What a pleasure and what a pride to forge the weekends at home with his dad.

It was while forging our blades in our spare time that my father came up with the idea of creating the Wildsteer. The famous archer's knife! The Wildsteer company will be born in 2004 and will be run by my mother for the first few years.

Follow my studies BAC, BTS, License, then my first jobs.
Far from the world of cutlery, we had lost sight of the blades and me. At the same time Wildsteer grew, both my parents were working there now.
In 2013 I joined them, indeed the flourishing company needed an extra pair of hands. My life as a cutler was finally about to begin!
During the first 5 years, I was able to train myself in cutlery, manufacturing, design, finishing and sharpening.
Accumulating over time expertise and experience, I embarked on the adventure of entrepreneurship in 2018 in order to fully express my creativity. Indeed, that same year, my micro-enterprise was born, I then became one of the rare people to have two jobs as a cutler at the same time.
This double role lasted 3 years, during which I took pleasure in working on all fronts with passion and rigor. It was finally in July 2021 that I decided to leave the family business to devote myself full time to Opus Knives.

Since then, all my time has been devoted to making my knives, with the aim of finding innovative, functional and unique designs.
My specificity is to put the design at the service of the user, no compromise is made on comfort and ergonomics. My blades are made to be used and taken to the field! All you have to do is choose yours...

The Opus clan is waiting for you!

Partners

One of my strengths is having been able to find renowned partners to offer you knives that are ever more suited to your activities. Despite the young existence of my company, they trusted me and we developed great working relationships and friendships.

Cudeman

This is how my first collaboration was born with the Spanish cutlery Cudeman. My Ness Wolf , hunting and bushcraft knife will then have the chance to integrate their catalog. My first Midtech was born. Cudeman is always, for me, a privileged partner and new projects are to come.

Lowik

Later, thanks to social networks, I met Lowik. Well known for its prowess with a throwing knife in hand, we have developed several knives together including the famous 'Surgeon' which is a hit with throwers around the world.

French Adventurer

One day an adventurer contacted me on Instagram and said to me
“Charles, draw me a knife”. The challenge was quickly accepted despite demanding specifications and an explorer attentive to the smallest detail. The Yukon was then created for Anthony Verlaine alias French Adventurer.

Boker Knives

Then a consecration arrived, a collaboration on my first model, the Islero . Consecration because this new partner is none other than Böker Knives, the world famous German company. I thus entered the closed circle of French cutlers present in their catalog.
